Heather Anne McPhillips, MD, MPH
Professor
Heather McPhillips, MD, MPH, is the Associate Dean for Curriculum and a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine. She previously served as Residency Program Director for eight years and Associate Program Director for 13 years for the University of Washington/Seattle Children’s Hospital Pediatric Residency Program. Dr. McPhillips earned her medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, completed her pediatric residency at the University of California, San Francisco, and completed a general academic pediatrics fellowship and Master of Public Health degree at the University of Washington.
Throughout her career, Dr. McPhillips has led and collaborated on innovative curricula and scholarly projects in medical education. During her tenure as Program Director, the UW pediatric residency received national recognition, including awards for the development of a global health and advocacy training pathway (REACH), a rural primary care training track in Alaska, and the prestigious Barbara Ross-Lee, DO, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award.
In addition to her leadership at UW, Dr. McPhillips has held national roles with the Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD), the Academic Pediatric Association (APA), the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) Child Health Committee, and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Her scholarly interests include learner well-being and burnout, inclusive and anti-racist learning environments, and competency-based medical education. Dr. McPhillips is a general pediatrician and currently practices at UW Roosevelt Clinic.
