Clinical Interest: Global maternal, newborn and child health epidemiology,; optimizing maternal, newborn and child nutrition, growth and early childhood development in low and high-income settings; maternal immunization, covid 19 vaccine trials and treatments;  assuring holistic, family-centered, high-quality care to infants and their families in community and facility settings.

Scholarly Focus: Dr Engmann is widely regarded as a global leader in the field of maternal, newborn child health and nutrition (MNCHN) and maternal immunization. He has extensive experience in the research, policy, advocacy and program spheres and is credited with initiating and leadership roles on several global efforts adopted by all 194 signatory countries of the United Nations, including the Every Newborn Action Plan, the Nurturing Care for Early Childhood Development Framework, the Global Preterm Research Consortium, and the Maternal immunization Consortium. He regularly partners  with a broad cross-section of stakeholders including United Nations agencies such as the World Health Organization and UNICEF, private foundations, academic centers and non-governmental organizations. He frequently leads MNCHN policy, implementation and educational dialogues internationally including with the Governments of the United Kingdom, India, South Africa, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Ghana, and serves on numerous global strategic, and technical advisory groups and boards. He recently concluded a 6-year term chairing  a consortium that advised the United Kingdom n on how best to spend and invest its overseas development nutrition assistance funding. Domestically, he serves on the NIH Covid Vaccine Trials Expert advisory panel, represents the NGO, research and pediatric communities at the US Senate & Congress, and serves on the Washington Research Foundation post-doctoral fellowship selection program, and the joint Fred Hutch, Seattle Childrens and University of Washington scientific success committee for junior and mid-level faculty.. He has authored over 130 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, abstracts and white papers and been an external examiner for the University of Queensland, Australia and Malawi College MPH programs.  Cyril has dedicated his life to addressing social injustice, improving health, and combating health inequity.  He is passionate about driving organizational impact through strategic, interdisciplinary, purpose-driven partnerships, about the value of learning, and in utilizing data evidence to improve the human condition and put bold solutions into action.
