Clinical Interests: Newborn health, survival, and long‐term outcomes in developed and developing country settings.

Scholarly Focus: Dr. Batra has two primary scholarly interests. The first is capacity building in resource limited settings, including human resource capacity, and the second is synthesis of existing solutions and adaptation of interventions to these settings. He helped to develop, implement and direct the University of Washington Pediatric Residency REACH (Resident Education and Advocacy for Child Health) Pathway in 2007. He was a founding member and is currently a member of the executive steering committee of the Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD) Global Health Pediatric Education Group. He is a member of the Education and Training Committee and the Global Health Task Force of the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). He has served in several consulting roles to the World Health Organization (WHO) and is currently a Global Newborn Strategy Consultant for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF). He has been a collaborator on several studies evaluating etiologies and outcomes of preterm birth globally. In addition, Dr. Batra has established an additional area of scholarly contribution in graduate medical education. He has been involved with 3 multi‐center national studies, which have evaluated resident professionalism, duty hours and the learning environment. Most recently, he is a founding member of the Pediatric Residency Burnout and Resilience Study Consortium which now includes over 60 pediatric residency programs aligned to measure, characterize and to develop interventions to promote resident wellbeing.
