Clinical Interest: Passionate about providing evidence‐based care to critically sick and high‐risk newborns. Special interests include neonatal infections, host‐pathogen interactions, neonatal resuscitation, care of ELBW infants and antibiotic stewardship.
Scholarly focus: Dr. Upadhyay has a keen focus on improving the overall quality and value‐based care at institutional level and beyond. He is a proponent of achieving the highest quality of clinical care by continuous improvements and standardization across the health system by meticulously incorporating potentially better practices. As a part of QI scholar Program funded by UW Pediatrics; his most recent project is focused on reducing the air leak syndromes in newborns.

Administration/Education roles: Dr. Upadhyay is the Associate Director of Neonatology Fellowship program. He is also the Clerkship Director for UWMC NICU. He is involved in various divisional clinical and administrative committees focused on fellowship, education and QI. He is also a member of AAP subcommittee for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety and Section of Early Career Physician Leadership Workgroup.
